15th Annual Sports Festival

Gulf Medical University to Conduct 15th Annual Sports Festival from March 5 to 10

Gulf Medical University (GMU), the leading private medical university in the region owned and operated by Thumbay Group – UAE will be organizing the Annual Sports Festival 2016 from the 5th to the 10th of March, at the University campus in Ajman. The sports festival is being held in line with GMU’s philosophy of “A healthy body for a healthy mind,” to facilitate student interactions as well as to provide them a platform to exhibit their sports talent.

The sports festival which is being organized in association with Body & Soul Health Club & Spa will be a grand sports event which will see the participation of around 27 leading universities and colleges from across the UAE. Competitions include Cricket, Football, Basketball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Tennis, Throwball, Volleyball, Squash & Swimming, in addition to track events. The awards ceremony for the winners will be held on the concluding day, at the University grounds.

The draw of lots for the Annual Sports Festival was held on Thurday, 18th February 2016 at the GMU campus. Prof. Gita Ashok Raj – Provost of GMU, Dr. Joshua Ashok – Dean, Student Affairs who is also Chairman-Sports Committee of GMU, Dr. Ishtiyaq Shaafie – Specialist in Biochemistry at the Center for Advanced Biomedical Research and Innovation (CABRI) of GMU and the representatives and students from the participating institutions were present for finalizing the fixtures of all the events.

Later, the students and the representatives of the participating institutions were taken for a tour of the University and the Body & Soul Health Club & Spa in the campus. The club is first of its kind in Ajman offering extensive sports, recreation, fitness, health, social and youth programs. It is located on the grounds of the Gulf Medical University with very easy access from Ajman, Sharjah & Northern Emirates and with ample parking. The facilities include a luxury family pool and deck, an extensive fitness suite with a view, dance and yoga studios, a 3 court tennis center with our very own pro, badminton, squash, volleyball and basketball courts, a soccer/cricket pitch and a ladies only section with a gym and private access to the ladies pool.
