Arab Women Organisation Praises Emirati Women

The Arab Women Organisation has recently greeted Her Highness Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, Supreme President of the Family Development Foundation, and Head of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, on the occasion of Emirati Women’s Day, observed every year on August 28.

The day was declared by Shaikha Fatima last year to celebrate Emirati women’s achievements thereby morally encouraging them to soar higher and achieve greater glory.

In a recent statement, Director-General of the organisation Mervat Tallawy praised Emirati women for making achievements in all spheres backed by the founding father of the UAE, the late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

She also praised Shaikha Fatima for her continuous support for Emirati women and expressed the hope that other Arab women would follow their model.

She further noted that Emirati women account for 66 per cent of government jobs, half of which are leading positions. There are now eight women ministers in the UAE and Federal National Council Speaker Dr Amal Al Qubaisi is the first Arab woman to chair a legislative body, she said.

The UAE has been supporting women since the establishment of the federation in 1971, and now investments worth more than Dh45 billion are run by women in the UAE while other women have joined the army and the police, Tallawy said. It is indeed a moment of great honour and glory for Emirati women.
