The Bahrain National Cycling Team produced positive results during its participation in the Maratona dles Dolomites Cycling Championship in Italy which is considered one of the most famous cycling events in Europe. The event was a three-fold contest, where participants had to climb four mountains in the first 55-kilometre phase and six mountains in the second stage which covered a distance of 106 kilometres. The last stage spread over a distance of 138 kilometres and competitors had to contest it out on eight mountains hitting a height of 2200 meters above sea level.
The Bahraini team consisted of Shaikh Saqer bin Salman Al Khalifa, Ibrahim Abdullah Touq, Abdullah Abdulsalam Al Mahmoud and Sara, while the event had more than 9000 participants in the fray. Shaikh Saqer and Touq participated in the last stage, while Al Mahmoud competed in the second stage and Sara battled it out in the first phase. All of them succeeded in completing their respective contests despite facing many challenges, including steep mountain courses and a severe shortage of oxygen on them. The Bahraini team was not just representing the Kingdom, but also the Arab world as it was the only Arab team participating in the event.
The team’s participation was closely followed by HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of Bahrain Olympic Committee (BCO). With the recorded results, the team once again managed to underline Bahrain’s advanced ability in the sport of cycling.
