Bahrain Athletes Secure Gold at Ramadan Jiu-Jitsu Cup 2017

KHK MMA fighters represented the Bahrain National Team at the Ramadan Jiu-Jitsu Cup 2017 in Abu Dhabi during the AFOCH 21st Sports Festival held at Abu Dhabi Officers Club & Hotel, UAE. Ali Qassab, Hamza Kooheji and Hamad Mattar have represented Bahrain at their relative weight classes.

Coach Mido accompanied the team as key official representing Bahrain. Hamza Kooheji and Hamad Mattar had secured gold medals while Ali Qassab had reached till quarter finals. KHK MMA initiative under the leadership of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa has repeatedly put Bahrain among the global leaders of combat sports while popularising mixed martial arts in Bahrain. Mixed Martial Arts comprises of multiple disciplines of martial arts and adopting the best in each discipline of martial arts such as boxing, judo, jiu-jitsu, karate, wrestling and so on. The athletes were fasting as the competition was held during the night and followed a tough diet to prepare for the competition.
“Our victory belongs for the sporting excellence and fighting spirit of Bahrain. We need to thank the efforts and leadership of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa for the growth of combat sports in Bahrain. Martial arts emphasize a healthy and disciplined lifestyle; this has triggered a positive change among the youth of Bahrain. Not just in Bahrain, but across Gulf Cooperation Council, youth are embracing the sport and exploring avenues where they can get involved professionally. Apart from motivating a healthy lifestyle, such a change will also bring economic and financial opportunities in the emerging sports sector” said Hamza Kooheji, who is also a fighter at Bahrain based Brave Combat Federation.
