Batelco and Huawei Successfully Test Speed of 40Gbps Fiber Technology

A first in the Kingdom!

Batelco, the Kingdom’s leading communications solutions provider, and Huawei, a leading global ICT solutions provider, have successfully conducted a speed trial of 40G TWDM PON (Time and Wavelength Division Multiplexing Passive Optic Network) technology which provides up to 40Gbps speed to deliver seamless ultra-broadband, Future Cloud & ICT solution, future IPTV, voice over IP and digital services.

Batelco is first in Bahrain to successfully trial this technology on its network; continuing with its position as a leader in the field of communications, not only in Bahrain but in the region.

The new 40G technology will enable Batelco to maintain a platform that is able to support the delivery of next generation, cutting-edge consumer and enterprise communication services at affordable prices.

Batelco Bahrain A/CEO Muna Al Hashemi said that Batelco is delighted with the success of the 40Gbps trial in cooperation with Huawei, one of their foremost strategic partners for many years.

“Batelco remains committed to bringing its customers the latest and most advanced services. We have focused on constantly enhancing our networks, creating strong partnerships, and bringing innovative technologies to our markets. Huawei’s technical expertise and their experience in cutting edge communications solutions will be invaluable attributes in supporting our goals.”

Huawei Bahrain Country Manager, Feng Nan said that Huawei and Batelco have a long history of successful cooperation which includes the successful trial of 10G GPON technology in 2010. The 40G TWDM PON technology will further enable Batelco to integrate future upgrades with existing GPON deployment plans, giving more control over the total cost of operation throughout the entire life cycle of the network.

Mrs. Al Hashemi concluded by saying that Batelco very much appreciates the role that Huawei has played in supporting the delivery of services for Batelco’s customers over the years and with the new cooperation the two companies now deepen their alliance and look forward to positive outcomes and mutual benefits in their endless efforts to support the Bahraini community and enhance customer services.
