Under the patronage of HE Mr. Zayed Al Zayani, Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, and in strategic partnership with Tamkeen, UNIDO, AICEI, SEU-UNDP, Fashion Technology Accelerator (Italy) and Kingdom of Innovation(3D printing provider), the Bahrain Fashion Incubator (BFI) celebrates the finale of the first Pre-Incubation Program in the MENA region targeted towards fashion designers – Dilmun Star.
Dilmun Star, which was launched in November 2018, is a competitive seven-month long program that provided 21 aspiring fashion designers requisite technical and business tools to kickstart a fashion business. The program participants have developed capsule fashion collection based on the following themes: technology, sustainability and heritage.
Masterclasses were offered by local and world renowned experts, in addition to practical workshops, access to machinery and skilled technicians as well as mentoring. The Participants were able to use the latest in technology such as laser fabric cutting machines, digital printing machines and 3D printing to create their collection and accessories.
The participants also pitched their concepts and present their creations to a panel of judges which included professional industry buyers, and fashion experts. The program’s objective was to showcase local talent in the field of fashion design and prepare them to embark on the entrepreneurial path to start their own fashion label that can compete globally.
The Program Finale to celebrate the top three winners and showcase all of the participants creations was held on the 20th of April at the Wyndham Grand, Manama. The Gala was attended by the French Ambassador to Bahrain, Mrs. Cécile Longé, who presented a speech on the occasion along diplomatic representatives, VIP guests, and industry businessmen and women from Bahrain and abroad.
The three winners as announced are – 1st place Lulwa Salem, 2nd place Fatima Samahiji and Abdulaziz Qasem, 3rd place Mariam Alalawi
