Adding diversity to the Bahraini market is what The Beauty Room is committed to. By giving access to premium brands unavailable in Bahrain in a glamorous setting, husband and wife Yahya Mohamed and Dana Bokhowa believe in bringing the fun of shopping back. Here they share with BTW their journey and unique business philosophy.

Tell us briefly about yourself

We are a husband and wife that own and operate The Beauty Room. We are committed, passionate and driven to providing the retail market with something a little bit out of the ordinary!

When and how was The Beauty Room founded?

The Beauty Room was founded in 2014, with the desire to add diversity to the Bahrain retail market. We found that there was so much sameness in the market. Everything is so homogenized. Thus, we really wanted to create a beautiful boutique that had brands that women had heard about and sought after, but were unavailable to buy in the stores here.

Give us a brief about some of the popular brands you have in The Beauty Room?

A few of our most popular makeup brands are Delilah Cosmetics, Lord & Berry, ZOEVA, Girlactik, Daniel Sandler, Pixi Beauty, Hot Makeup and Sigma. We carry skincare brands such as Nip + Fab, Urban Veda, Farsali and Zoella. Haircare such as Kardashian Beauty, Philip B and Tangle Teezers. We also carry a range of branded perfumes, candles, jewelry, accessories, greeting cards and more!

How do you differentiate from other shops and yours?

We strive to provide our customers with a unique retail experience, by providing access to in-demand and current brands that were previously only found outside of Bahrain, all housed in a beautiful and glamorous environment.

How do you think the trending online market is going to take a share of your business?

There is not a competitive website in Bahrain that deliver all the brands that we carry. The purpose of our stores is to have an enjoyable shopping experience. For us, shopping is all about the fun of browsing, touching and testing the products. We offer a totally different experience to online shopping.

How many branches do you operate?

We have two branches. One in Saar Mall (Saar) and one in Wadi Al Sail Mall (Riffa). Both operate daily from 10am to 10pm.

What were the initial challenges of establishing your business?

Logistically speaking, dealing with over 50 brands from the UK, USA and Europe can be a challenge as we deal with different people, policies, retail agreements and procedures. In addition, an ongoing challenge we face is that there are so many more brands that we would like to add to The Beauty Room, however, the barrier to obtaining some of these brands is that many of them are under an umbrella of large conglomerates with exclusive rights.

Are there any memorable experiences as an entrepreneur that you would like to share with us?

Yes! Actually, our most memorable moments were when, on two separate occasions, we had customers fly in from Qatar and Kuwait specifically to shop at The Beauty Room. They had even asked us how to get a taxi back to the airport after shopping with us! It was a huge compliment to the whole concept of our business.

What is your message to aspiring entrepreneurs in Bahrain?

To be a successful entrepreneur you
have to be passionate and excited
about your plans and just go for it.
You’ll need endurance and hard work. You’ll also need to research your market thoroughly, keep up with trends and always listen to customer feedback.
