The Chief Executive Officer of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), H.E. Shaikh Khaled bin Humood Al Khalifa, affirmed the continued support of the Government towards developing the Kingdom’s tourism and MICE sector which was relayed during the second-edition of the Government Forum 2017 held under the patronage of H.R.H. Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and in line with the initiative of the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier, H.R.H. Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
The BTEA has launched a comprehensive tourism strategy to promote the vibrant industry on a regional and global level with an aim to highlight the tourism capabilities of the Kingdom and boosting its contribution to the national economy in line with the Economic Vision 2030. This year alone, the Kingdom of Bahrain has welcomed a total of 8.7 million visitors, which is equivalent to an increase of 12.8% compared to the same period in 2016.
“We have announced the commencement of four major sea-front projects in addition to the launch of a hospitality institute by 2018. The launch of the institution aims to elevate the industry by training the Bahraini workforce and creating a generation that can further boost this sector,” said Shaikh Khaled.
In addition, H.E. Shaikh Khaled bin Humood Al Khalifa lauded the success achieved by hosting the Government Forum 2017, which highlighted the government’s efforts to accelerate the growth and progress of the Kingdom. The forum also discussed on the accomplishments of the tourism sector which directly strengthens the Kingdom’s position on a regional and international front.
Shaikh Khaled also expressed his gratitude towards His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, H.R.H. the Prime Minister and H.R.H. the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister for supporting the growth of the tourism sector, striving to overcome all challenges faced by the industry and facilitating the process of attracting investments related to the tourism sector to the Kingdom.
He also extended his sincere congratulations to the wise leadership on the success of the Government Forum 2017, which highlighted the significant achievements of the Kingdom and the importance of cooperation between the public and private sector to drive the Kingdom’s growth and prosperity.
“Between 2016-2017 BTEA achieved a number of accolades including the launch of seven representative offices in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom, Germany, France, India, China and Russia. The BTEA has also been selected as member of the United Nations World Tourism Organization’s Executive Council for the period between 2018-2021 which comes as a result of the BTEA’s efforts towards developing the Kingdom’s family and Gulf tourism sector,” he added.
“BTEA aims to develop investment opportunities that can developed the national economy by hosting a series of event throughout the year aimed at attracting tourists from the Gulf, region and internationally with an aim to position Bahrain as the ideal family destination,” said Shaikh Khaled.
