Diyar Al Muharraq Announces the Release of 2,000 Hammour

Diyar Al Muharraq, one of the leading urban developers in the Kingdom of Bahrain, announced that it released 2,000 Hammour fingerlings in two different sites within a protection zone created by Diyar in the project’s Northern canals.

The initiative took place on the 1st of February, 2017 and was held in collaboration with ByrneLooby, an award winning international civil and structural engineering consultancy that partnered with Diyar Al Muharraq in late 2016 to enhance its marine environment. With the aim of finding effective and innovative solutions for the protection of coral reefs and marine life, Diyar Al Muharraq commissioned ByrneLooby to carry out a study to increase marine life, diversity and restore seagrass in Bahrain’s marine environment, focusing on the development’s surrounding area.

Elaborating further, Chief Executive Officer of Diyar Al Muharraq, Dr. Maher Al Shaer said: “It is with immense pride that I announce that we have undertaken such a significant environmentally oriented initiative that we intend will have an enduring effect on marine biology in both Diyar Al Muharraq and the Kingdom of Bahrain. Replenishing the depleted fish reserves of the Kingdom is a responsibility that has to be actively pursued on a large scale by every sector of our society. With the constant and increasing challenges we face such as climate change and an imbalanced diversity in marine life caused by varying factors, it brings us immense pleasure to be able to augment and add to our Corporate Social Responsibility through our care for and consolidation of the marine life within our master-planned development.”

“Exemplifying our philosophy and pioneering stance on environmental conservation, Diyar Al Muharraq has re-set the benchmark for environmental measures taken by a new real estate development project. Our release of the 2,000 Hammour fingerlings is one among many of the eco-friendly enterprises that we are implementing and we look forward to continuing in the creation of a legacy that actively supports the long-term vision for the future of the Kingdom of Bahrain”, he added.

His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Mubarak Bin Daina, Chief Executive of the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) of Bahrain, praised Diyar Al Muharraq for implementing several projects specifically aimed at preserving the natural environment in the Kingdom of Bahrain, many of which were executed with their combined efforts, such as the development of coastlines and waterways projects for Diyar Al Muharraq. He elaborated that the release of the Hammour fingerlings will substantially contribute to replenishing fish stocks in the Kingdom’s territorial waters, with fish being considered the most prominent of the offerings provided by Bahrain’s marine ecosystems.

From the very conception of the idea of creating an all-inclusive, expansive modern city, Diyar Al Muharraq has considered the protection of the natural environment within the project and its surrounding areas to not just be a part of its intrinsic Corporate Social Responsibility but as a completely separate, extensive function. In its innovative strides to enhancing marine traditions and maintaining an ecological balance, Diyar Al Muharraq has planned for extensive waterfront areas, including sea fronts, sandy beaches, internal marinas, canals, channels and water features throughout the community as well as myriad parks, landscaping and open public spaces, all in an effort to lead by example amongst other real estate developers on both local and regional fronts.

Diyar Al Muharraq is a unique master planned city for the people of Bahrain offering range of housing options and quality lifestyle. Diyar Al Muharraq offers a cohesive mix of residential and commercial properties with a strong lineup of projects aimed at creating a long term and sophisticated township.
