To celebrate the spirit of Ramadan and spread the true essence of kindness and humanity that this Holy Month inspires, Downtown Rotana hosted more than 20 orphans from Al-Kawther Society to an afternoon of festivities at the hotel premises. Children between the ages of 6-14 were treated to a themed Iftar buffet prepared exclusively for them by the hotel chefs, and spent their evening enjoying a host of games and songs to mark the gargaoun festivities.

This is the first in a series of planned activities by Downtown Rotana, in its sincere effort to engage with the community and give back to those less fortunate. The Hotel has committed to a sustainable engagement plan focusing on enhancing the quality of life for the children of the Al-Kawther Society that have had the misfortune of being orphaned at a very young age. The Downtown Rotana staff have committed to taking these orphans under their wing and organizing bi-monthly activities that support their education and develop their skills across different areas, as well as providing them with a venue for fun and entertainment.
Mr. Lilian Roger, General Manager of Downtown Rotana said: “There is no better time to initiate our community outreach program than during the month of Ramadan. We are happy to open our hearts and doors to these children at such a festive occasion; and our plan is to continue to work closely with Al- Kawther Society to establish a sincere, long-term relationship with these youngsters in the hope that we can make a small difference to their lives in whatever way we can. We want to be their mentors, and we want to see them learn and develop as they grow; and I am proud to say that our staff is fully committed to this cause.”
Downtown Rotana’s long-term engagement plan with the Al-Kawther youngsters includes a combination of educational and fun activities such as swimming lessons, healthy cooking sessions, hospitality career days, cinema nights and arts and crafts fun.
On this occasion, Ms. Fatima AbdulKareem from Al-Kawther Society stated “It gives us great joy to see entities open their doors to our children; small gestures can go a long way in brightening up a child’s day and the gargaoun event has been a huge success. We are excited to work closely with the people of Downtown Rotana in the future and establish a long-term partnership for the benefit of our youngsters.”
