On the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister to encourage the use of renewable and sustainable energy for Bahrain’s overall development and it achieving the 2030 Economic Vision, Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza yesterday received a high-level delegation from the Prince Charles Foundation headed by its Executive Director, Kim Hitch.
Electricity and Water Authority Executive Vice President for Distribution and Customer Services Adnan Mohammed Fakhro and Housing Ministry Housing Projects Director Sami Abdullah Buhzaa were present.
The minister praised the efforts of the Foundation in cooperation with the Ministry of Housing in the success of the implementation of the Khalifa City project in an integrated manner. During the meeting, the minister gave a presentation on the plans and projects of renewable energy and energy efficiency in Bahrain and the achievements in this area in coordination with His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister.
The two sides discussed the possibility of applying the renewable and green energy applications on the ground in Khalifa City and to make them a model for green cities to increase its energy efficiency and rationalization of consumption.
Dr. Mirza said that foundation’s interest in the issue of sustainable energy implementation in Khalifa City is an important initiative and an advanced step towards realizing the national goals related to renewable energy and energy efficiency approved by the Council of Ministers.
This, he said, would be an important step to have five per cent of energy use as renewable by 2025 and six per cent later that same year.
The minister commended the directives of the leadership and the government in supporting sustainable energy projects and giving them keen attention and encouragement as well as continuous follow-up to achieve the desired goals.
The visitors expressed their thanks and appreciation to the minister and officials for the warm welcome and fruitful meeting which marked the road towards the implementation of green energy in Khalifa City during the next phase.
