In my previous article, I shared with you a few insights on why switching to a Medium Format camera would be beneficial. Recently, I have been fortunate to have hands on review and test of the Fuji GFX50s mirror less medium format camera and it was definitely an exciting experience.

As of last year, Fujifilm took the camera world by surprise with the introduction of the GFX 50s; its first medium-format mirror less camera option. It features a large 51.4-megapixel CMOS sensor (43.8 x 32.9mm) in a DSLR like frame that only weighs 1.6lbs (740g). For those whom have experienced using a Fuji camera before, its ergonomics should be familiar all thanks to the company’s trademark physical dials and generally premium build. With the GFX 50s you don’t only get an outstanding ergonomic experience – one in which the X-series cameras are known for but it is also matched with a large sensor capable of achieving an outstanding “Fujifilm” color scheme.

What remarkably powers the GFX 50s is the latest X-Processor Pro which is the same imaging chip found on Fujifilm’s flagship cameras X-Pro2 and X-T2 cameras. The GFX 50s is an entirely new system and uses the brand new ‘G’ mount. The camera distinctively shares a lot with its high-end X-series counterpart but not in terms of their X-Trans sensor array. GFX 50s use the more traditional Bayer sensor array. Why is this? Because this sensor array reduces the complexities of signal processing; this is crucial when data is transferred from such a large sensor. Below are the Fuji GFX 50s product highlights:

• 51.4MP 43.8 x 32.9mm CMOS Sensor

• X-Processor Pro Image Processor

• Removable 3.69m-Dot OLED EVF

• 3.2″ 2.36m-Dot Tilting Touchscreen LCD

• 117-Point Contrast-Detection AF System

• Extended ISO 50-102400, 3 fps Shooting

• Full HD 1080p Video Recording at 30 fps

• Multi Aspect Ratio Shooting

• Film Simulation Modes

• Weather-Sealed Magnesium Alloy Body

You can be the next owner of this beauty. Fujifilm is hoping the GFX 50s will find its way into the hands of commercial photographers working in fashion, portraiture, wedding or landscape scenes. There are of course quite a few cameras on the market satisfying the needs of photographers. As we go along with this article over the in the coming weeks, I will be sharing a few images in real world scenarios using the Fujifilm GFX 50s.

If you are interested to see the GFX 50s or the other range of Fujifilm cameras available, I suggest you to visit Fujifilm Bahrain (Abu Issa Brothers Trading) in Seef Area.
