Gulf Air Wins Threefold at GITEX Technology Week for 2nd Year

Gulf Air, the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain, has become the first organization in the Middle East (in both the public and private sectors) to win three major technology awards for the second consecutive year at GITEX Technology Week 2015.

GITEX Technology Week is the largest Information Technology exhibition and conference in the Middle East. Celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, the renowned IT expo was held in Dubai and saw Gulf Air, the only Bahraini organization to participate – take home three wins: “Best Hospitality and Tourism Implementation of the Year” and “Middle East Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the Year” by Arabian Computer News, and “Best Project Execution of the Year in the Aviation Industry” by Enterprise Channel.

Commenting on the wins, Gulf Air Acting Chief Executive Officer Mr. Maher Salman Al Musallam said, “I’m delighted to see Gulf Air recognized yet again for their achievements. By continuously improving our information technology services, Gulf Air, as an airline, becomes progressively better equipped to provide an enhanced service to our passengers while, in tandem, boosting our internal efficiencies.”

Gulf Air’s Director of Information Technology Dr. Jassim Haji commented, “I’m honored to receive these awards on behalf of Gulf Air’s Information Technology department. We boast some of the most technologically savvy minds in the Kingdom of Bahrain and having our collective achievements recognized at GITEX Technology Week is truly rewarding and one of the most significant markers of our strong team.”

Bahrain’s national carrier, Gulf Air, is renowned for its pioneering Information Technology achievements, becoming the first organization in Bahrain to implement Private Cloud Computing in its IT operations and introducing numerous innovations and improvements in its IT function. In 2015, the airline successfully rolled out its new generation iPad Electronic Flight Bags (EFBs), thereby eliminating the need for paper-based manuals and procedures and going electronic to further improve flight operations and achieve major cost-savings.
