International & Local ICT experts been assigned for eGov Excellence Award 2017

Bahrain’s eGovernment Excellence Award 2017 has announced its jury members who will be in-charge to evaluate the submitted nominations competing for the 9th edition of the Award that is organized under the patronage of H.H. Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak AlKhalifa, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Information & Communication Technology.

The high caliber jury members is a blend of expertise consisting international and local experts in the field of information and communication technology. This year, the jury committee is chaired by Ms. Louise Thomasen, a global consultant and expert in eGovernment and ICT with over 30 years’ experience working cross the field of technology and society. Ms. Thomasen works in analysing, designing, implementing and evaluating IT systems as well as tools, which has given her extensive experience in evaluating, benchmarking and guiding eGovernment websites as well as projects.

The Award 2017 jury members makes a variety of ICT specializations and their expertise comprises various fields including the quality of the evaluation process considering the new categories that have been added this year such as the ‘Best Practice in Community’s eParticipation’. Another category also has been added which is the ‘Best Application for Smart Devices’, which falls within the Multi Sector category in the award. The category grants entities which provide smart devices applications utilized for advanced technologies to improve the level of services as well as reduce costs, time and effort to complete a transaction or a set of transactions by exchanging information and accomplishing transactions.

Jury members encompass independent consultant in the areas of ICT, excellence and strategic planning Mr. Mohamed Tayeb Mahmood, independent consultant in the areas of ICT ,Dr. Mazen Ali, Information Systems Department Chairperson of the IT College in the University of Bahrain, Ms. Amani Shajera- Head of Studies & Research Department at the Supreme Council for Women/ Business Administration College lecturer at the UOB, in addition to Dr. Mohamed Baqer- Director of Strategy & Performance Unit at UOB and Ahmed AlMahri- Business Development Assistant Manager at Benefit Company.

The jury committee evaluates work by focusing on criteria that evaluates eServices which link governmental entities – this achieves integration in serving beneficiaries. The criteria also focus on the services that impact citizens – achieving the aim of the award which is to showcase the outstanding work, exchange experiences, develop services amongst these entities and contribute to achieving the eGovernment program by jury’s feedback which also contributes in essentially developing public services.

The awarding categories encompass seven distributed into three sectors – the Government, Multi Sectors and the Citizen. The Government category comprise the ‘Best eGovernment Website’, ‘Best Government-to-Government eService (G2G)’, ‘Best Practice in Community eParticipation’ and ‘Best eGovernment Integrated Services for Individuals or Businesses’. The Multi-Sectors category include ‘Best Application for Smart Devices’. As for the Citizen category, the two awards ‘Best eConcept’ and the ‘eCitizen’ which will be awarded based on the largest number of transactions accomplished and biggest value of financial transactions completed via the eGovernment portal (bahrain.bh) during one year.

H.H. Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak AlKhalifa will award winners during a ceremony specifically organized for this event which will be announced at a later stage.
