iGA Holds its 2nd Monthly Meeting for Transition of Cloud Computing

Continuing its efforts in enhancing communication and fostering confidence between public entities and service provider Amazon Web Services (AWS), the Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA) organized the 2nd monthly meeting with senior IT specialists in the government to discuss its readiness and progress of migrating to cloud computing as well as implementation mechanism. The meeting was conducted with the attendance of iGA Operations Director Mr. Mohammed Khalifa Al-Yassi and participation of 25 information security specialists representing governmental and semi-governmental entities.

During the meeting, Al-Yassi welcomed attendees and stressed that the continuity of organizing such meetings reflects how the IT sector is fully integrated between governmental and semi-governmental entities. They also enhance efficiency of entities to improve and deliver their services with the highest of quality by adopting cloud computing while supporting the Kingdom’s strategic direction which is an important leap in the adoption of the latest information technologies.

The meeting also involved a discussion by Mark Ryland, Director of Security Engineering at AWS, on the mechanisms to enhancing cyber security through agility and automation. He also addressed the role of the team and the need of following security policies in this environment. Moreover, Al-Yassi presented the latest developments regarding the migration of public entities to the national cloud as well as the upcoming work plan.

The monthly meetings are one of the initiatives iGA organize to adopt the Kingdom’s ‘First Cloud’ policy by the Supreme Committee for Information and Communication Technology, chaired by HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister. The policy is adopted to confirm the cloud’s role in reducing operational expenditures of IT systems and services, enhance quality of service as well as keep abreast with the rapid advancements in this field at the highest levels of security and protection.
