LAUNCH OF CYCLE SAFE BAHRAIN

Cycle Safe Bahrain was officially launched on 11th of May, Thursday at the Westin Bahrain City Centre. The initiative by PowerUp and TriLife to spread awareness to cyclists and motorists on how to share the road safely was led by Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, president of Bahrain Cycling Association.

“It’s about time that we start this initiative in Bahrain. Generally, people in Bahrain are good drivers but this project will spread more awareness on sharing the roads safely not only to cyclists but the motorist as well. Respect in the roads is the key. We are very excited and very grateful that everybody is on board with us,” Shaikh Khalid explained.

Abdulmohsen Algosaibi, co-owner of TriLife discussed the mission of Cycle Safe Bahrain, “Cycle Safe aims to raise awareness of the dangers faced by cyclists on the road. It is designed to educate the general public on road safety and sharing roads with cyclists. Ultimately, it intends to improve infrastructure to include cycle safe lanes in collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation.”

Robert Beaty, General Manager of Nissan Bahrain which is the official pilot car of the cycling activities mentioned their participation in this great cause, “Nissan fully supports the sports community as well as the safety of the people on the roads. We are truly very happy with this collaboration as it gives us the opportunity to help the Bahrain community.”

Anna Dowling, General Manager of The Westin Bahrain City Centre, “We are really delighted for this ground breaking initiative that supports Westin’s ‘well-being’ philosophy.”

Redia Castillo, General Manager of PowerUp expressed her gratitude to all the supporters especially the clubs, associations and federations. “We have received overwhelming support from the cycling community and the partners who has given their long term commitment for this project and we are very grateful for their support.”

May Al Haji, Secretary General of the Bahrain Triathlon Association in return thanked Cycle Safe organizers. “Thank you for making our lives easier. We, cyclists are worried about our safety as well as the safety of our children. This is such a great project.”

Cycle Safe aims to keep you and your fellow road users to be as safe as possible on the roads. It intends to engage stakeholders to enable cyclists of all levels the ability to cycle safe. Ultimately, it aims to focus, improve, educate and amend infrastructures to include cycle safe lanes in Bahrain roads in the future. Weekly bike rides will be scheduled to promote the brand and get everybody on board. The first soft launch of the bike ride will take place on 13th of May 2017, Saturday. The main bike ride will be announced soon.
