Meisei: Modern Japanese Fusion Meets Culinary Artistry

Bahrain’s most elegant dining and entertainment venue in the heart of the bustling 338 district of Adliya is inspired by the philosophy of wabi-sabi, an Asian aesthetic value centred on the profound appreciation of the beauty and fragility of transience. Indeed this is evident event at first glance, with the design exuding a deep sense of respect for nature and honouring the beautiful materials used throughout, including the antique Buddha’s surveying the interiors, and the imposing three-story waterfall in reception.

Chef Michael Sang Kyu-lee, Director of F&B Remza group, one of the most renowned and skilled veterans of the fine dining industry in Bahrain, takes his culinary philosophy and inspiration from his international travels both from leisure and profession. He injects his emotion into his cooking and believes in adapting his cuisine to the culture, engaging in constant inspiration and development through his intrepid travels. His latest menu creation is a melange of Robatayaki – literally meaning fireside cooking – dishes, providing a fusion take on the traditional Japanese Yakitori, to be enjoyed at the all-new Robata counter on Meisei’s ambient ground floor. Chefs provide theatrics for diners on the open grill, which uses traditional Japanese Binchotan coal to cook delicacies at over 1000 degrees Fahrenheit, with guests sitting at the bespoke Robata counter created from 75-year old Californian Sequoia redwood.

The Robata dishes lend themselves to a casual dining style, with yakitori (meaning meat/vegetables cooked on a skewer) of different varieties, from Spicy King Tiger Prawn, Rib-Eye Prime Angus Beef with aji panca marinate to Spiced Tofu with black bean ginger marinate. Carnivores, pescetarians, vegetarians & vegans alike can enjoy Robata grills, as Chef Michael Sang Kyu-lee includes veggie delights like Grilled Avocado topped with tomato salsa, Spiced Grilled Romaine with black bean sauce and sesame oil reduction, of course a classic Halloumi yakitori drizzled with Thai basil aioli. Try out Robata Tuesdays, where selected dishes plus four house beverages can be enjoyed for BD30 for two people.

While you dine you can watch Meisei’s chefs at work through the theatrical kitchen window behind the Robata counter, or in cooler climes dine al fresco on the panoramic rooftop. October has not only seen the new Robata counter open, but also the tranquil Meisei Garden with special Afternoon menu, introducing Bahrain’s first Bao (a Japanese steamed bun accompanied by tempura sweet potato fries with essence of truffles) slider menu. During the month of October, group of 2 (two) 1 eats free in the garden – good for your well-being and your wallet!
