On the Directives of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Holding Sports Events and Functions Prohibited Without Approval from Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs

HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of HM the King for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs and President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports has issued decree no.1 for the year 2021 with regards to organising sports events and functions. 

The decree stipulates: “after reviewing decree-law no (5) for the year 1983 on the amendment of the Amiri decree no (2) for the year 1975 to establish the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and its amendments, and the law of the societies, social and cultural clubs as well as private bodies operating in the field of youth and sports by decree-law (21) for the year 1989 and its amendments and the decree issued by the Coordination Committee no. (359-2020) on its meeting on December 29, 2020, on the proposal to extend the validity of several measures and precautions to combat the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) as well as other decisions for two more months for the public interest:

“Holding all sports functions and events is prohibited without obtaining prior approval from the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs, and the Legal Affairs and Licenses Department in the Ministry is the competent authority concerned with issuing approval for the organisation of any sports events or functions by any of the institutions, companies, clubs, sports federations or Bahrain Olympic Committee as well as Bahrain Paralympic Committee or any of the private bodies working in the field of youth and sports set forth in the law of societies, social and cultural clubs, and private bodies working in the field of youth and sports and private institutions promulgated by decree-law No. (21) for the year 1989. The aforementioned Department is – exclusively – tasked upon receiving a request to hold any sports event or function from any of the bodies mentioned previously, to communicate with the security and health authorities and coordinate with the National Medical Taskforce for Combating COVID-19 to obtain the necessary approvals before notifying the requesting party of the decision issued in the matter of the submitted request.”
