MERCURY MENA RAMPING UP CONSTRUCTION OF MONDELEZ BAHRAIN BISCUITS WLL FACTORY FOR 2016 COMPLETION

Construction of the US$90 million biscuit manufacturing plant of US-based food giant Mondelēz International is in full swing with Mercury Middle East WLL (Mercury MENA) spearheading the development as the project’s general contractor.

Mondelēz International facility is one of the key capital projects of Mercury MENA slated for completion along with a roster of major blueprints expected to roll out in 2016. The company has provided excellent engineering services in Turnkey Construction, Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC, Life Safety, Facility Management and Interior Fit-Outs to blue chip clients across all sectors throughout the Middle East and North Africa.

The world-class manufacturing facility is designed and engineered as a multi-category plant that can handle large-scale production through technology-enabled and state-of-the-art components, in strict compliance with the specifications of Mondelēz International manufacturing plants worldwide. The factory will produce on its first phase, six different biscuit categories with a capacity of 90,000 tons, which is nine times the weight of the Eiffel Tower with the possibility for the future to add more production lines. Upon completion of the project, its products will be exported to more countries, generate increased supply, and reach more consumers across the globe.

Mr. Dmitry Shachenok, Project Director of Mondelez Bahrain Biscuits WLL said, “Accelerated construction activities are fast underway in the project’s strategic location at the Bahrain International Investment Park in Salman Industrial City.

The facility is one of our most ambitious plans on tap for this year, a landmark initiative that will significantly increase the manufacturing supply chain of Mondelēz International, to address the rising demand for our popular products such as Oreo, Ritz, belVita, Prince and TUC across the MENA region.“

“The Ministry and other government bodies are delighted to be working with Mondelēz International and Mercury MENA to make Mondelēz International’s vision come to fruition,” said Osama M. Al Arrayed, Under-Secretary for Industrial Affairs, Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism. “Mercury’s experience will prove invaluable to making this project a reality. Once completed, this facility will make a significant contribution to the economy of Bahrain and I am pleased Bahraini’s can see the project is making progress”.

Mr. Salman Tahir, Vice President of Mercury MENA said, “Our innovative approaches and technology infrastructure are being applied on all fronts to fast track construction of the facility. Project completion on schedule is a critical issue, and all resources are being utilized to full capacity to deliver the project to Mondelēz International on time. We have always set the benchmark and we would like to maintain our position as a developer of iconic projects.”
