Aster attracts participation from local residents in road safety campaign #iPLEDGE

Aster DM Healthcare has successfully reached out to over 10,000 residents of Bahrain in a span of two weeks from its launch on 7th February 2016 by Dr. Azad Moopen, Chairman & Managing Director of Aster DM Healthcare and the legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar in its international road safety campaign under the headline #iPLEDGE. The campaign is in line with the Aster’s SAFE ROADS CSR programme embodying various road safety awareness programs aimed to contribute to the community’s welfare.

Considering an estimated rate of one traffic-related fatality every 53 minutes in the GCC, Aster has encouraged young school children as being the influencers to their parents, drivers and a road users take a pledge to be more mindful on the road to keep the roads safer.The four recommendations incorporated in the pledge were to not use the phone while driving, to wear a seat belt, to always wear a helmet and to use zebra crossing, subways and footpaths. All pledges were taken besides a cut-out standee of legendary cricket player and endorser of the campaign, Sachin Tendulkar.

The group’s road safety campaign has traveled across Bahrain and witnessed the participation of local community members in public parks, including Prince Khalifa Bin Salman, Andalus Garden, Marina Beach, Arad Reserve, Sitra Corniche and Salmaniya Park. Various schools such as New Horizon School, Bangladesh School Bahrain, Dilmun School, New Millennium School, The Asian School and Tylos Private School have taken an active role in spreading the campaign amongst its students. Moreover, traffic policemen joined in taking the pledge at the General Directorate of Traffic.
