“I am really excited to race this weekend,” he says. “I have never done it before but it’s a classic race that always draws a bolstered field.”

St. Anthony’s Triathlon is in its 33rd year. Held at the start of the USA racing season, it has always attracted a top-notch field of Olympic distance non-drafting specialists with its $30,000 total prize purse paid out eight deep.

Appleton raced on the ITU circuit for two seasons before pursuing university studies and migrating toward long-course racing.

“I haven’t raced an Olympic distance in a few years but I come from an ITU background so hopefully that holds me in good stead this weekend. It should be a ripper.”
