Say Hello to the Prius

Driving a hybrid just got more exhilarating with the all-new fourth generation model marking the Prius’ maiden entry in the Middle East

Ending the wait for customers in Bahrain, Toyota revealed the highly anticipated all-new Toyota Prius in a spectacular event at the showroom on February 20th, 2016 to showcase the fourth generation of the global hybrid icon. The Prius is by far the world’s most successful hybrid car and one that is winning hearts with its exceptional environmental performance, a stunning new design and a spirit that makes it even more fun to drive.

The Prius remains Toyota’s technological ambassador, a showcase for new, relevant technologies that raise levels of safety, convenience, driving experience and comfort. Customers today expect more than having an exceptionally eco-friendly car – they equally require a car that offers style, ease of use and real driving pleasure. The new Prius demonstrates the genuine rewards that remain to be enjoyed from Toyota’s full hybrid technology, together with appealing new characteristics in terms of performance and fun to drive quality; advantages that will steadily feed through to new generations of other Toyota hybrid models.

The fourth generation Prius is a world beater, a culmination of almost two decades of experience and development that has overcome many challenges to be the Prius it is today, thanks to Toyota’s famously relentless Kaizen development process. The Prius is therefore the perfect expression of our philosophy of creating “ever better cars”.

Mr. Ismail Akbar, Executive General Manager of Sales at Ebrahim K. Kanoo said: ‘The all-new Toyota Prius is set to wow drivers in Bahrain with its ground-breaking environmental performance, a bold new design and a fun-to-drive spirit. We will see more of Prius, the number 1 hybrid in the world making a statement on the streets of the Kingdom.’

He added: ‘Ebrahim K. Kanoo continues to satisfy customers’ needs and exceed their expectations with top of the line products and vehicles. Today with the fuel price increases and the cost of servicing rising, this innovative hybrid technology guarantees to save you more money, lower your maintenance cost while ensuring a quiet and pleasant ride. What’s more, the new Prius is capable of 1300 kilometres per tank with as low as just BD 7 to fill.’

According to Mr. Takayuki Yoshitsugu, Chief Representative, Middle East and North Africa Representative Office, Toyota Motor Corporation, “The Prius underlines Toyota’s continued commitment to progressive thinking and being environmentally conscious. The new model is a triumph of technology and boasts significant advances in every area, with a clever, class-leading aerodynamic design that allows it to offer excellent fuel and emissions efficiency without sacrificing either cabin space or driving ease and comfort.”

Yoshitsugu continued: “The Prius is also a symbol of Toyota’s innovative nature and inherits Toyota’s legendary QDR (Quality, Durability and Reliability). Over 3.5 million[1] satisfied customers have put their faith in the car to make it the world’s most popular hybrid. Toyota fans in the region can rely on the brand’s extensive and comprehensive support network to enjoy their ownership of the Prius. We also appreciate the support of our customers and we look forward to delighting them with the Prius.”

The Prius gasoline engine teams up with its electric motor to offer the best features of both, the gasoline engine is 1.8-litre VVT-i equipped Atkinson cycle petrol engine has been completely re-engineered, with remarkable results in terms of performance and fuel economy. The new engine achieves a maximum thermal efficiency of 40 per cent ― the world’s highest level in a mass-produced gasoline engine. The maximum output of 97 HP of the car’s gasoline engine is delivered at 5,200 rpm, with a peak torque of 14.5 kg-m at 3,600 rpm, while the electric motor delivers 71 HP of power and 16.6 kg-m of torque.

Significantly improved fuel economy and a more attractive design combine to bring you a powerful Prius model that delights the driver. The Prius is a superior hybrid, which can be driven completely on electrical power with zero fuel consumption and zero tailpipe emissions, or with a combination of the electric motor and gasoline engine depending on your driving behaviour. The hybrid batteries are charged continuously when braking and decelerating – so you don’t need to plug in a power cord and it doesn’t require any special fuel, yet drives like any other conventional car. And, of course, you can say goodbye to those frequent stops for gasoline fill-ups.

As with any other Toyota model, safety remains a top priority, with the TNGA-based chassis optimised for excellent impact performance along with an impressive array of active and passive features such as seven airbags to protect the driver and passengers, active front head restraints and Head-Up Display, Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), among many others.

In terms of colour selection, take your pick from seven exciting exterior hues: Attitude Black Mica, Dark Blue Mica Metallic, Grey Metallic, Silver Metallic, White Pearl Crystal Shine, Super White and Emotional Red. The car’s interior is available in two colours, Cool Grey and Black.

Without a doubt, the new Prius will change your perception of what an eco-friendly car should be like to drive and to look at much to the delight of those looking to make a statement of style on the road.
