The “Smile” initiative, a Bahrain Future Society for Youth program that provides psycho-social support to children with cancer and their parents in Bahrain, recently recognized and honored the students from the Department of Architecture and Interior Design at the University of Bahrain’s College of Engineering.

These students made valuable contributions to the design of the Abdullah Kanoo Pediatric Cancer Unit at Salmaniya Medical Complex. “Smile” commended their significant efforts in meticulously planning and designing the unit’s façade and facilities. Their dedication and creativity were acknowledged as they successfully translated their imaginative ideas into a tangible and practical project that greatly benefits the community.

At its headquarters, the “Smile” initiative held a celebratory event to honor the 24 students who made significant contributions to the design of the Abdullah Kanoo Pediatric Cancer Unit. During the event, the students were presented with certificates of thanks and appreciation, along with awards acknowledging their exceptional dedication and commitment to the project.

This recognition reflects the initiative’s commitment to celebrating and fostering the creative talents of young architects, encouraging them to apply their skills in engineering design and practical application. By emphasizing the importance of innovation and creativity in their professional work, the initiative aims to inspire the younger generation of architects to aspire to new heights in their careers.

Mr. Sabah Abdulrahman Al-Zayani, Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Bahrain Future Society for Youth, expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing partnership between the initiative and the students of the University of Bahrain. This collaboration marks the second consecutive project following the successful design of the “Smile” initiative’s headquarters three years ago. He hailed this collaboration as an exemplary model of long-term positive cooperation between charitable initiatives and educational institutions.

Mr. Al-Zayani emphasized the significance of this partnership in enabling students to apply the skills and concepts they acquire at the university to a real-world project that supports children battling cancer, ultimately enhancing their quality of life. He highlighted that the designs created by the students consider the environmental, social, and aesthetic aspects of the location.

Furthermore, Al-Zayani highlighted that such initiatives foster collaboration between institutions and local communities, strengthening interdependence to achieve noble humanitarian goals. He expressed his anticipation for future endeavors in which the Smile Initiative, the University of Bahrain, and other institutions can join forces. These initiatives aim to value talents, encourage future generations to harness scientific knowledge, and seize opportunities in humanitarian service.

It is worth noting that the Abdullah Kanoo Pediatric Oncology Unit at Salmaniya Medical Complex was reopened on February 15, following a comprehensive renovation and equipping process with state-of-the-art medical equipment and facilities for the benefit of sick children. The inauguration ceremony was held under the patronage of His Excellency Lieutenant General Doctor Sheikh Mohamed Bin Abdullah Al-Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health.
