Support for combat sports affirmed

Efforts to develop and improve the sport of self-defense in Bahrain came under the spotlight.

This came as HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of Bahrain Olympic Committee, visited the Redha Centre for Self-Defense in Barbar.

Shaikh Nasser was received by centre Director Reda Monfredi, who briefed him on the combat games that are being trained in the centre, including Thai boxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Shaikh Nasser stressed providing all support to centres, sports clubs and players in order to enable Bahrainis to achieve best results in regional and international events.

He also met with all the trainees at the centre and gave them a welcoming speech before witnessing some of the exercises of the players.

Shaikh Nasser praised the role of the centre in spreading and strengthening the combat games in the Bahraini society by attracting youth and developing their abilities and potential through engaging them in unique training programmes.

Secretary General of the Bahrain Olympic Committee Abdulrahman Askar was also present.
