Supported Corpse Pose

The Supported Corpse Pose is to restorative Yoga what Corpse Pose is to Yoga. The supported corpse pose uses blankets bolster or other support to relieve neck and knee strain while in the pose.

Props Required P:- 1 bolster / 1 or 2 thickly folded blankets

Organising the Pose

  • Keep a folded blanket at the top of the mat to support the head, while in the supine position.
  • Place a bolster at the bottom end of the mat to prop up the legs as you lie down on the mat, with the legs separated and relaxed.
  • You can have another folded blanket below the lower back. If required.
  • Lie down on the mat with the head supported on the folded blanket and the legs propped up on the bolster, with knees slightly bent , legs separated and feet turned outwards.
  • The body relaxed with the arms away from the body and palms facing upwards with the fingers soft and relaxed. The body released of all energy and eyes softly closed.
  • Stay in the pose for 5 -10 minutes or as long as you like with steady, deep breathing as the body settles into stillness.

Use of Props-

  • You can have soft eyes pads over the eyes for a deeper relaxation.
  • A small rolled blanket under the lower back.
  • A blanket over the whole body.

  •  Reduces distress and anxiety and helps reduce blood pressure.
  • Reduces stress, headache and fatigue.
  • This pose concludes your practice as you allow the mind to settle into breath awareness as the body
