Tamkeen COO joins panel of judges at Emirates Awards for Arabian Gulf Youth regional entrepreneurship competition
In-line with its efforts to support individuals across all stages of development, Tamkeen partnered with the Emirates Foundation as part of the Awards for Arabian Gulf Youth regional entrepreneurship held recently in Abu Dhabi. As part of this partnership, Tamkeen’s Chief Operating Officer, Ms. Amal Kooheji, joined a regional panel of judges in this year’s edition of the competition.
The finale, which took place in Abu Dhabi from 16 November until the 18 November 2015, saw 15 finalists compete for the award. For its efforts in joining the initiative, Tamkeen was awarded in recognition for its one year partnership with the Foundation. A number of regional institutions and partners from around the GCC also attended in support of this youth initiative.
The partnership with the foundation comes as part of Tamkeen’s various initiatives to prepare the youth for the labour market and instill a spirit of entrepreneurship that allows them to grow and become productive individuals in the economy.
Commenting on the announcement, Tamkeen’s Chief Operating Officer Ms. Amal Al Kooheji, said: “Tamkeen is proud to join the Emirates Foundation to bring this year’s edition of the successful initiative forward, as both organisations share the vision of youth empowerment and developing their skills in the field of entrepreneurship. Tamkeen has always strived to offer youth programmes such as A9eel and Mashroo3i to further develop the skills of Bahrain’s future workforce, and hopes to continue to expand both its youth empowerment and entrepreneurial efforts further with local and regional partners.”
This initiative comes as part of Tamkeen’s continuous efforts to provide training and development opportunities for the Bahraini Youth with a vision to gain practical experience in the world of business. The objective of its Youth-targeting programmes is to create a movement towards entrepreneurship in Bahrain and to create a better understanding of basic business planning and other elements for a successful entrepreneurial experience within the Kingdom’s private sector.
Tamkeen is a semi-government organisation in Bahrain established in 2006 under Law Number (57) as part of the country’s national reform initiatives, with the task of making the private sector as the key driver of sustainable economic development.
Underpinned by its 3 strategic pillars – enhancing quality, serving customers, and achieving results – the organisation provides an integrated range of programmes to create a solid foundation for a modern economy – such as SME financing, skills training, and entrepreneurship.
At the same time, these programmes address key challenges facing Bahrainis and businesses in the private sector at various stages of their development – from start-ups to mature companies, and from students to senior executives.
To date, Tamkeen’s programmes have served more than 120,000 Bahrainis and businesses.
