The Team Bahrain McLaren made history in Italy winning the 16th round of the San Daniele Del Friuli Grand Tour.
Jan Tratnik earned his first stage victory in a Grand Tour by winning the 16th leg of the Giro d’Italia on Tuesday, followed by Briton Ben O’Connor.
Tratnik won the 229-kilometer-long race (142-mile), from Udine to San Daniele del Friuli where he crossed the line first with his arms outstretched. Enrico Battaglin was third behind his Bahrain–McLaren teammate Tratnik.
His Majesty the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa expressed delight at the impressive performance.
“The victory reflects the team’s great potential and continuous shining in external championships, which aim to promote Bahrain in mega sporting events”, he said adding that Team Bahrain McLaren deserves to compete in major international races.
He stressed the importance of the victory which, he said, represents a major boost for the Team Bahrain McLaren to continue shining in upcoming championships.
He lauded the team’s steady progress, commending the plan set by the administrative and technical staff to triumph and honour Bahrain in different sporting events, wishing them more victories and titles.
