The World Retail Congress is delighted to announce that the 2017 inductees into the World Retail Hall of Fame are:

  • Terry Lundgren, Executive Chairman, Macy’s, Inc.
  • Martha ‘Marty’ Wikstrom, Founder, Atelier Fund
  • Micky & Renuka Jagtiani, Founders, Landmark Group

Now in its 11th year, the World Retail Hall of Fame has honoured founders of some of the world’s most iconic retail brands, and this year is no different.  The World Retail Congress’ Advisory Board, the Grand Jury for the World Retail Awards and other industry peers have once again identified individuals they believe are true giants of the industry and should be honoured for their lifetime achievements and contribution to retailing.

Terry Lundgren, Executive Chairman, Macy’s, Inc.

Terry Lundgren began his retailing career in 1975 as a trainee with Bullock’s, a Los Angeles-based division of Federated Department Stores, Inc. (now Macy’s, Inc.), and is now Executive Chairman of Macy’s, Inc. (as of 24 March), which includes Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s, and Bluemercury. the e-commerce website for the company’s largest brand is one of the largest on-line retail businesses in America.

As its former CEO, he led Federated’s acquisition of The May Department Stores Company in August 2005, nearly doubling the size of the company. In 2015, he was named one of the Top 30 CEOs in the world by Barron’s. He was WWD’s “Newsmaker of the Year” in 2014 and is the recipient of the Deming Cup by Columbia Business School for distinction in leading continuous improvement.

He currently serves on a number of boards including the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, The Procter & Gamble Company, Carnegie Hall and the National Retail Federation (NRF). Mr Lundgren is a former board member of Kraft Foods Inc. and has served as co-chairman of the Partnership for New York City, and chairman of the National Minority Supplier Development Council, NRF and the American Society of Corporate Executives.  He currently serves as chairman of the Economic Club of New York and co-chair of the American Heart Association – CEO Roundtable.

Mr. Lundgren is a native of Long Beach, CA, a graduate of The University of Arizona, and an active supporter of The Terry J. Lundgren Center for Retailing at The University of Arizona.

Commenting on the award, Mr. Lundgren said: “I am truly honoured to be included amongst an illustrious group of individuals in the World Retail Hall of Fame. I’ve had a passion for the retail business and most importantly serving customers since my very first job as a trainee in a Los Angeles department store. Since then, I have had the privilege of working alongside and being mentored by some of the greats of the retail business who have helped nurture and guide my professional life. I share this award with the many friends, colleagues and family who have helped to support me during the course of my more than 30-year career and I look forward to many more years of involvement in one of the most dynamic industries in the world.”

Martha (Marty) S Wikstrom, Founder, Atelier Fund

Martha (Marty) S. Wikstrom is a seasoned brand and retail executive with over 30 years’ experience in global executive roles.

She is a founding partner of Atelier Fund, specialising in the acquisition and development of luxury brands, and currently sits as a Board Director of Fortnum & Mason, Johnstons of Elgin, The Rug Company, Farrow & Ball and Harrys of London, Ltd. Ms. Wikstrom was formerly a Non-Executive Director of Bally International Ltd. and Space.NK, Ltd.

Ms. Wikstrom served as the Deputy Managing Director and then Managing Director of Harrods, Ltd. She was a Board Director of Harrods Holdings Ltd, Harrods Estates and Kurt Geiger, Ltd where she was also the interim Chief Executive Officer. Ms. Wikstrom also led the Fashion and Accessories brands of Compagnie Financiere Richemont SA, the world’s second largest luxury goods holding company, of which she also served as both a Non-Executive and Executive Board Director.

Prior to joining Harrods, Ms. Wikstrom spent 19 years at Nordstrom, Inc. where she rose from a part-time sales assistant to President of the Full Line Stores Group.

Commenting on the award, Ms. Wikstrom said: “It is an honour to be inducted into the World Retail Congress Hall of Fame. Over the last four decades, I have seen the impact of globalisation on brands and retail and I am humbled to be acknowledged alongside world class individuals who have been crucial to this development. I have always strived to create an environment and experience that is meaningful and memorable for the customer. I have had the privilege of working with people in all areas of industry across the world, from expert sales personnel to accomplished brand strategists; innovative and iconic creative talent to leading business minds. It is on behalf of all of these individuals who have impacted me and my career, that I gratefully accept this honour.”

Micky and Renuka Jagtiani, Founders, Landmark Group

Together, Renuka and Micky Jagtiani created what is now one of the largest retail organizations in the Middle East, Africa and the Indian subcontinent, with over 2400 outlets, encompassing over 27 million square feet area.

Micky Jagtiani is Chairman of Landmark Group and the driving force behind the retail conglomerate’s phenomenal success. A constant innovator, Micky has always looked at things differently, across 40 years, has conceptualized and created over 27 diverse brand concepts, each successfully bridging a gap in the market. Today, they are market leaders, delivering exceptional value to communities across the Middle East and India.

With insight, conviction and a passion for excellence, he has spearheaded the growth of the Landmark Group across different geographies and made it the region’s largest retail and hospitality conglomerate, with over 2400 outlets across 30 million sq. ft. Micky leads by example in empowering people and inspires a work culture of integrity, adaptability, entrepreneurship and excellence; core values that drive Landmark Group’s success.

Renuka is the Vice-Chairperson and Strategic Leader for Landmark Group, the Middle East and India’s leading retail and hospitality conglomerate. For the past 20 years, Renuka has guided the Group’s corporate strategy, built the fashion and hospitality business, led expansion into new countries, initiated the Group’s ecommerce platform, and spearheaded the Group’s CSR initiatives. Her many achievements include, creating and establishing the high street fashion brand, Splash, launching the Landmark International franchise division, and leading the Group’s strategic growth and expansion in India.

Renuka and Micky are responsible for spearheading the growth of the Landmark Group, overseeing retail and hospitality operations, entry into new markets, acquisitions, franchise operations and foray into new businesses including the Group’s ecommerce venture

A strong believer in giving back to society, together they drive the Group’s CSR initiatives. Through their philanthropic foundation, ‘Landmark International Foundation of Empowerment’ or LIFE, they help underprivileged kids in India, via healthcare and school development programs, non-formal and vocational education, homes for impoverished children, and medical camps and community clinics for those living in slums. They also sponsor numerous charities in India and regularly donate to orphanages in Mumbai and Chennai.

The 2017 inductees will be presented with their awards at the World Retail Hall of Fame lunch which takes place on the closing day of the World Retail Congress in Dubai on 6 April.
