Unlocking Dubai’s Solar Potential

innogy International Middle East and Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence (Dubai Carbon) to develop Rooftop PV Projects in Dubai

In line with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai’s vision and the UAE Vision 2021, it is evident that Dubai and the UAE are at the forefront of sustainable development in the region. With the ambitious targets of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030, the Demand Side Management programme and the Shams Dubai regime, entities are encouraged to foster innovation in support of the Government, to successfully meet and exceed these targets, and become one of the best cities and countries in the world by 2021.

In light of this, and to ensure cost effective solar solutions for both the residential market and industrial rooftops are readily available, innogy International Middle East and Dubai Carbon jointly signed an MoU to develop and implement potential rooftop PV opportunities under the Shams Dubai initiative. The collaboration will include the design of a standardized low cost solar kit for residential applications, as well as for large scale industrial rooftops.

Ivano Iannelli, CEO of Dubai Carbon stated, “Our core expertise is the provision of regionally relevant knowledge” He continued, “Our role is to facilitate the transition to a low carbon, green economy through our data centric approach. We look forward to using our expertise as an Independent Renewable Energy Consultant to implement the continuously growing pipeline of solar PV projects across the Emirate of Dubai and the UAE, in partnership with innogy International Middle East”. Dubai Carbon was recently awarded the development of rooftop PV units for 220 villas in Hatta, out of the contracted 640 villas, the largest residential rooftop PV project in the region.

Dubai Carbon further stated that as a certified consultant under Shams Dubai, they are proud of leveraging innogy’s international expertise and reputation as a reliable partner. innogy International Middle East (formerly known as RWE Middle East) will provide the high level consulting expertise to ensure that the solutions provided will meet the most rigorous qualitative standards and best practices. innogy will also support the projects with innovative solutions from its global innovation hub.

Pierre Samaties, CEO of innogy International Middle East added, “Our mission is to support the Government of Dubai in the transformation towards a green economy and smart city. Rooftop PV is a key element for this transformation.” The companies will initially follow a list of twelve specific opportunities.
