Using Long Lens for Landscape

Long Lens Photography

When we go out and about for a quick photo shoot, often times we tend to bring with us one lens; a long lens for that matter. Having long lens does come in handy for landscape and portrait photographers alike. A typical long lens we may all have is the 70-200.

Although it is instinctive to have wide-angle lens when doing a landscape photography, one would find it rather essential to also have a telephoto lens (long lens) in their creative landscape photography kit for the reason that it allows you to compress various elements in your image. What does this mean? This means the photo elements from background to foreground will look more solid as they would seem closer together as compared to a photo taken with wide lens. A great example of this is when you zoom in on a mountain range, the result will look tight and packed as the trees are seemingly more dense.

Additionally, long lens capture a narrower angle of view compared to wide-angle lenses making it easier to compose landscape photos. It simplifies your scene which often makes for stronger image.
