VIVA Bahrain implements fingerprint registration for customers

VIVA Bahrain will start validating the identity of its customers in compliance with the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority’s regulation entitled “Sim-Card Enabled Telecommunications Services Registration Regulation” (the “Regulation”) that was issued on December 27th, 2015. The Regulation is a mandate on all telecom operators offering SIM-Card enabled telecommunications services in Bahrain.

In compliance with the Regulation, VIVA Bahrain will start from July 12th, 2017 capturing the identity of its new customers electronically by means of verifying their fingerprint during the registration process. New individual subscribers visiting VIVA outlets will have to carry their Bahraini CPR/GCC ID or Passport to undergo the new registration process, while Business customers will be approached by VIVA business sales representative to verify their fingerprint in accordance with the new regulation.

Commenting on the industry regulation, VIVA CEO Eng. Ulaiyan Al Wetaid said, “We welcome the new industry guidelines of SIM-Card Enabled Telecommunications Services Registration Regulation, We are extending our full support to the TRA to ensure effective communication and implementation of the new registration process that will support the need for consumer and business protection.”

The new registration process is in compliance with TRA’s Regulation, which is mandatory for all telecom operators offering SIM-Card enabled telecommunications services in Bahrain.
