First Emirates Sports Medicine Conference Set to Launch in May

The Emirates Society of Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine (ESRSM) is proud to announce the launch of the Emirates Sports Medicine Conference (ESMC), under the Patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mansoor Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman- Dubai Sports Council.

ESMC will take place on the 13th and 14th of May 2023 at the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU) in Dubai, UAE and is expected to host more than 500 participants across 30 different nationalities. The conference in its first edition is endorsed by multiple national and international bodies such as: General Authority of Sports, Sheikh Hamdan Award for Medical Sciences, UAE Football Association, UAE Paralympic Committee, Dubai Police, UAE Sports Sciences & Sports Medicine Center, Dubai Business Events and 16 other regional and international societies.

The two-day event will bring together experts from across the world to deliver evidence-based knowledge updates in Sports and Exercise Medicine, Rehabilitation of Sports Injuries, and Sports Orthopedic surgery. The mission of ESMC is to be the platform to aggregate this wide array of specialists as well as the general community to be able to learn, connect and share best practices in the industry. 43 speakers will deliver 13 sessions, 40 lectures, and 2 workshops during the conference, providing attendees with comprehensive updates on the latest research and developments in the field of sports medicine. The conference program is designed to offer a mix of theoretical and practical sessions that will provide attendees with insights on how to diagnose, treat and prevent sports injuries, as well as strategies for enhancing athlete performance.

The faculty will deliver lectures across a range of topics, including 2 main highlights to the conference this year which are football medicine and the female athlete. Multiple related topics will be discussed including injury prevention, rehabilitation of injuries, sports nutrition, and sports psychology, among others.

The ESMC aims at combining industry leaders in sports medicine with the local experts, to ensure that attendees will benefit from a broad range of perspectives and insights on the latest technologies and advances in the industry and therapeutics of sports medicine through its medical exhibition which will highlight the latest innovative technologies in the fields of sports injury treatment, rehabilitative management making it an unparalleled event in the country and region.

Commenting on the launch of ESMC, Dr. Abdullah Al Rahoomi, President of ESRSM and the Conference, said: “This year, we aim to provide a premier interdisciplinary platform for evidence-based discussion. The Emirates Society of Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine and Emirates Sports Medicine Conference are thankful to H.H. Sports medicine is a rapidly growing field around the world, encompassing a range of medical specialties, including orthopedics, cardiology, and neurology. The global sports medicine market size was valued at USD 10.93 billion in 2022 and is expected to be worth around USD 21.86 billion by 2032.

Dr Kate Jordan, ESMC Organizing Committee and ESRSM Scientific Committee Chair states that, “The first ever Emirates Sports Medicine has attracted some of the brightest minds the from the specialty of

sports medicine travelling from across the world. We have some ground breaking sessions, one example of which is the female athlete session, with talks from world leading experts such as Prof Kirsty Elliott Sale and Stacy Sims plus a unique insight into the female athlete’s own experience from elite athlete co-chair Sara Sigmundsdóttir (previous CrossFit Open World Champion). The variety of sessions on offer make this conference relevant to a broad range of delegates from clinicians to athletes wanting to understand more about their own physiology and wellness.”

The ultimate goal of ESMC is to provide a comprehensive, diverse and educational experience in the field of Sports Medicine and Exercise Science to all walks of life taking to consideration all industry groups as well.
