‘Old Markets Committee’ Implements Plans for the Manama Souq Project

Headed by the Chief Executive Officer of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), H.E. Shaikh Khaled bin Humood Al Khalifa and in the presence of the First Deputy Chairman of the BCCI and Head of the Old Market Committee, Mr. Khalid Rashid Al Zayani, the members of the Old Markets Committee held a meeting at Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) to discuss the latest developments on the old Manama souq project.

During the meeting, several topics were discussed which included the grants provided and the budget for the development of Manama souq’s main facilities and services, which will be presented to BCCI’s Board of Directors. They also discussed launching Manama Souq’s website, installing signage boards and incubators in a designated area for innovative crafts.

“It is our pleasure to witness the joint cooperation between all concerned governmental and private bodies in order to achieve the objectives of the project and its overall success. It is important that the project is executed based on best practice to enhance and position the Manama Souq as a significant touristic and commercial destination,” said the CEO of BTEA, H.E. Shaikh Khaled bin Humood Al Khalifa.

Further commenting on the meeting, the First Deputy Chairman of BCCI and Head of the Old Market Committee, Mr. Khalid Rashid Al Zayani, stressed on the importance of holding regular meetings in order to stay updated with the latest developments of this vital project that seeks to meet the needs of all Bahraini citizens. He further stated that the government has taken great strides to revive the souq which is considered to be one of the most popular attractions in the Kingdom for shoppers looking for original and distinct products.

This comes in line with the BTEA’s long term strategy to further develop the Kingdom’s tourism sector by attracting Bahraini visitors and tourists from the GCC countries and beyond.
