Tribute to a Bahraini music legend

The Bahrain National Theatre is set to host a concert on Thursday (March 28) celebrating the journey of one of most prolific and renowned musical figures of Bahrain: singer and composer Khalid Al-Shaikh. Entitled “Alongside You” after his early 1980’s breakout song that earned him recognition in the Gulf and wider Arab world, Al-Shaikh is highly regarded for his unique artistic sensibility which combined classical Arabic with traditional Gulf folk rhythms, firmly establishing his position as an innovative artist and enabled him to collaborate with all types of voices and create new kinds of music compositions over his 40+ year career.

The concert features a number of Al-Shaikh’s most beloved hits with music by the Bahrain Music Band led by maestro Khalifa Zaman.

A special event will take place prior to the concert at the Bahrain National Museum on Tuesday (March 26) to launch The Taste of Experience, a new book that highlights Al-Shaikh’s lasting legacy. The book launch will be accompanied with a thought-provoking forum moderated by artist Khalid Al-Rowaei and a guest panel consisting of Al-Shaikh himself and Mohamed Haddad.

The events are part of the 2019 Spring of Culture season organised by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA).
