Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba), the Bahrain-based international aluminium smelter, unveiled today, Sunday May 10, 2016 its plant-wide Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Summer Safety Campaign ‘Safety Convoy’ at the Oasis Hall.
With the aim to foster greater awareness on staying safe and healthy during the upcoming summer months, the five-day campaign will focus on all aspects of heat stress, heat exhaustion and challenges caused by the hot weather as well as on general safety topics.
Inaugurated by Alba’s Chairman of Board of Directors, Shaikh Daij Bin Salman Bin Daij Al Khalifa, the event was attended by Alba’s Board Director, Dr. Mohamed Kameshki, Alba’s Executive Management, Directors, Managers and employees from various departments of the plant including representatives of the Alba Labour Union and Alba Trade Union.
Speaking at the Opening Ceremony, Alba’s Chairman Shaikh Daij said:
“Summer is one of the most difficult seasons of the year due to the extreme heat. In line with Alba’s long standing commitment to employee safety and health, we initiate summer safety campaigns every year to help our employees stay safe as well as ensure an accident-free summer.”
Adding further, Alba’s Chief Executive Officer Tim Murray said:
“Although Alba has been able to maintain high levels of safety standards across the plant, Safety is a journey that never ends. We believe that we can prevent work-related injuries and illnesses by taking appropriate care and following the procedures. Most importantly, we need to take ownership of safety, individually and collectively to remain healthy and productive.”
The Summer Safety Campaign ‘Safety Convoy’ campaign will comprise visits lectures, presentations, safety demonstrations as well as training sessions.
