Forum to be under the patronage of the Minister of Oil and Environment, Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, H.E. Dr. Mohamed bin Mubarak bin Daina.
Sustainability Forum Middle East today announced that it will launch its second edition on January 9, 2024 in the Kingdom of Bahrain under the patronage of the Minister of Oil and Environment, Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, H.E. Dr. Mohamed bin Mubarak bin Daina. This year’s Forum, again supporting regional decarbonation, will focus on “Achieving Net Zero – Pathways to Accelerating Implementation”.
The Forum in its inaugural edition attracted participation from more than 400 senior decision makers, sustainability experts and dignitaries in the Kingdom of Bahrain with high-level speakers and panels including top government officials and business and climate leaders, examining national and regional net-zero commitments and the critical role of the private sector in achieving them.
The second edition, to be held after the much anticipated COP28, set to take place in the UAE in November 2023, will review the outcomes of the annual United Nations (UN) climate meeting and the road ahead towards net-zero including new strategies and solutions for regional decarbonisation and pathways for accelerating implementation. This includes essential collaborations and tools, funding and the regulations required to support economic transition and progress across all sectors. COP28 will be the second consecutive UN global climate meeting to be taking place in the region, after COP27 in Egypt in November 2022, further shining a spotlight on MENA’s important and unique role in global decarbonization.
Leading up to the Forum in January 2024, Sustainability Forum Middle East will be holding a Decarbonisation Roundtable Series with the first set for May 23, 2023 in the Kingdom of Bahrain on “Carbon Markets – Accelerating and Funding the Road to Net-Zero”. It will look at the role carbon markets can play in helping businesses and countries achieve their net-zero ambitions. Featuring participation from public and private sector actors engaged in carbon markets and senior representatives from regional carbon market companies, the roundtable will provide an overview of carbon markets and help build better awareness of their growth and practical workings as well as the potential benefits they can provide as part of broader efforts to support and fund decarbonisation and the road to net zero.
Commenting on the launch of the second Sustainability Forum Middle East, H.E.
