Bahrain Sports Day hailed

The 2019 Bahrain Sports Day, organised by the Bahrain Olympic Committee on Tuesday, has received an outstanding response from leading sports, youth and society representatives, thanks to the efforts of the organising committee – headed by secretary general Abdulrahman Askar.

Abdulla Ibrahim Al Dosari, chairman of the Youth and Sports Committee at the Parliament Council, expressed pleasure for taking part in the celebration of Bahrain Sports Day.

“I have personally had a wonderful all-in-all experience is I have engaged since early morning in the Parliament Council activities before heading to the main sports village at Isa Town Sports City to share the crowd another amazing time,” said Al Dosari.

Al Dosari also thanked His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister, for ordering a half-day work for government employees to engage in sports activities on this day.

He expressed appreciation to Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Majesty the King Representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman, and BOC President, for his efforts to bring the Bahrain Sports Day in cooperation with different ministries, governorates and institutions.

On his part, Paralympic Committee Chairman Mohammed bin Daij Al Khalifa    stressed keenness of the people of determination ‘special needs’ to take part in the Bahrain Sports Day for the third successive year to prove to the world their ability to engage in different sports activities.

“Our people showed great determination as they participated in several events such as wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis, sitting volleyball, and other sports. It was fun-filled experience for all of them and we were so excited for that,” he said.

Shaikh Mohammed also admired the organization of the sports village, which witnessed various events that suit all segments of the society.

Bahraini artist Noor Al Shaikh said she was pleased to contribute to this year’s Bahrain Sports Day and meet with people at the main sports village, where she also witnessed a variety of sports activities that were filled with excitement and fun for everyone, and stressed the importance of this day in developing the culture of sports in the community.

“This is the third time I visit the sports village and I like the fun, sport and entertainment atmosphere in here. It is an environment that encourages sports and has full services such as clinics, health clubs, free medical consultations and promotions,” she said.

Supreme Council for Youth and Sports assistant secretary and Bahrain Sports Day organising committee chairman Askar – joined by BOC board member Ali Eshaqi, honored all sponsoring companies and contributors for their support to the event at the venue.

The event was sponsored by Elysian Mineral Water, strategic sponsors ‘Tamkeen’, golden sponsors Al Salam Bank, Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC), Bin Hindi Motors (Kia), silver sponsors Ithmar Bank, in addition to Aluminum Bahrain (Alba).

Adding success to this year’s edition of the Bahrain Sports Day was the development of an Android/Apple mobile application ‘Bahrain Steps’, which reads your health and fitness data from the Health app (HealthKit).

In addition to the daily personal health analysis, the application provides sports events’ health analysis in four simple steps – create your event, share it with your participants, let participants enroll and get live analysis.

Detailed live analysis of the sport event can be obtained through this app, which shows fitness data from Apple’s Health app, including total number of steps, total calories burned, total distance, filter based on gender and age groups.

According to statistics prepared by the Information Technology Department, the number of this app users were 1,233, doing more than 4 million steps and calories burned were over 110,486 while crossing 2,858 km total distance.

Batelco has sent SMS messages to mobile users to promote the application by including a direct download link to Google Play and Apple Store.
