Bahrain’s efforts to tackle COVID-19 challenges highlighted

Supreme Council for the Environment (SCE) Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mohammed Mubarak bin Daina took part in the ’inisterial meeting of the “Online Platform” on a Sustainable and Resilient Recovery from COVID-19 and the website “Platform for Redesign 2020”.

Organised by the Japan’s Environment Ministry, the seminar saw the participation of the  Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and UN Secretary-General António Guterres addressed the opening session which convened as the world continues to grapple with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), stressed concerted international efforts to combat the pandemic and mitigate its impact on societies and the environment.

Dr. bin Daina affirmed Bahrain’s commitment to international conventions on tackling environmental challenges, describing the pandemic as a daunting challenge for all countries in the world.

He stressed the importance of drawing up general frameworks that focused on the current stage and anticipate the post-COVID era in order to recover in a sustainable manner.

He underlined Team Bahrain’s efforts, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, to draw emergency plans and enforce precautionary measures since the pandemic first broke out in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
