Batelco Hosted EUGAP General Meeting Opens

Experts from leading international telecom companies in attendance at key event

Batelco, in line with its commitment to developing communications for the Kingdom of Bahrain is delighted to host the 37th EUGAP General Meeting, which is taking place in Bahrain until 23 November, at the InterContinental Regency Hotel. Batelco is an active member of EUGAP, as one of 26 member organisations which come from 20 countries in the Asia Pacific and Middle East regions.

The event was officially opened with an introduction from EUGAP Chairman Steven Hopcraft on November 21, followed by the keynote address from Batelco Chief Technology & Information Officer (CTIO) Bashier Sallie.

EUGAP (Ericsson User Group Asia Pacific) is an operator member-driven user group which offers a structured and consistent platform for the exchange and dissemination of information, and an open dialogue between member operators and Ericsson. The group forms a single and unified platform for all GSM/WCDMA/LTE operators to discuss and reach consensus on operational issues, and matters of strategic importance for operator business strategy in the context of Telecom & IT convergence and ICT industry transformation.

By selecting Batelco in Bahrain as the host for its General Meeting, EUGAP confirms the Kingdom of Bahrain as a viable business and event hub in the Middle East region. Batelco’s name is recognised internationally due to the Company’s growth in recent years which has taken it into a number of new geographies. Furthermore, Batelco’s participation at international events such as GITEX has strengthened the Company’s reputation as a major regional organisation with capabilities on par with leading regional and international telecoms companies.

The event, which comprises of three days of presentations and working group activities, is being attended by over 150 telecoms experts and executive management from the member organisations.

A number of experts will speak over the course of the event including Klaus Middeler, Head of ICT Business Operation and Consulting & Learning Services at Ericsson UAE, who will present on IoT Use Cases and Håkan Eriksson, Head of Strategy at Ericsson South East Asia and Oceania, whose presentation is titled Network Transformation. A number of Batelco Engineers will present the Company’s most recent achievements. Additionally, Ericsson will also be showcasing some of its latest solutions and services including its Internet of Things IoT platforms, Virtualised and Software defined infrastructure.
