Designing jewellery that embelishes one’s personality is her passion. And with exemplary dedication towards this passion, Khulood A. Qader, Managing Director and Designer, Curve Jewellery, is going places adorning the world with her beautiful creations and touching lives with her positive energy and inspiring success story!

Tell us briefly about yourself.

I am a Bahraini female jewellery designer , and CURVE Jewellery is my brainchild. I am a certified gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), California. I had worked as a Gemologist and inspector at Ministry of Industry and Commerce Laboratory for 6 years testing and certifying different stones; natural pearls, diamonds, platinum, gold, sapphire, emeralds, rubies etc.

I was the head of the Entrepreneur Committee at Bahrain Business Women’s Society for which I have successfully held several events and implemented projects for entrepreneurial development. I am member in Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Gold, Pearl and Jewellery Committee and Business Woman Committee, UNIDO, American Women’s Association and World Campaign International Arab region (Alwane) a program which aims to empower Bahraini women economically. I am also the program head of Rowad Cafe, and a Board Member in G.C.C Gold and Jewellery Association heading the training and development committee and board member at Bahrain SME’S Society heading Entrepreneur’s committee.

What is your educational background? Have you acquired any formal training or in degree in jewellery designing?

I studied chemistry for my Bachelor’s from the University of Bahrain, and a high diploma in precious stones and management of jewellery from a leading institute in the United States(GIA),and jewellery design course at BCCI from an institute of Thailand design.

Were you interested in jewellery designing right from your childhood? What caused you to take it up as a profession?

I always had a passion for designing jewellery. It was my hobby when I was younger. Then I started jewellery business at home, designing for family and friends. Starting my own jewellery designing business in early 2010, I could gradually built a devoted clientele. Curve initially started with regional production and sales, however, it has also made international sales, including in the United States and the United Kingdom. In 2013, I  launched Elegant Silver, a new line jewellery collection of high-end quality and unique designs of silver jewellery pieces.

How did you take up natural pear designing?

I noticed there was a lack of innovation in Pearls jewellery design and decided to do something about that.

Is there any particular style/philosophy or motif that has an influence on your work?

A lot of my work is influenced by the Islamic and Bahraini culture. So, I try to combine a lot of natural elements in my designs.

Tell us briefly about your method of work. How do you design a piece of jewellery? Do you improvise on existing designs or do you create your own?

I do both.

Do you think that it is important to have a formal training in jewellery designing to be a successful jewellery designer?

No,   I think passion is more important but it’s always good to empower it with training.

How do you balance work and home?

I balance work and home through time management and leading the business not managing it.

What is your message to budding jewellery designers of Bahrain?

If you have the passion for jewellery designing or manufacturing, it is an amazing field full of positive energy and you can inspire the world.
