A partial opening of the underpass at a major highway is expected to ease traffic woes in Juffair in the coming days.
The underpass at the intersection of Al Fateh Highway with Awal and Bani Otbah avenues (Al Fateh Grand Mosque Junction) is crucial to those commuting in and out of the bustling suburban district that is considered as one of the most vibrant areas in Manama.
Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa visited the partial opening of the underpass, along with other officials.
The partial opening of the underpass will provide additional workspaces for the remaining parts of the project, allowing for the completion of the project on schedule. The project aims to increase the street’s capacity to reach 140,000 vehicles per day, a 61 per cent increase from the previous situation. The three-lane Al Fateh highway underpass will be fully operational on the scheduled date, extending 600 meters in both directions.
The development project, funded within the Gulf Development Program by the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) is considered an essential part of Bahrain’s vital highway development, costing around BD35 million. The works ministry is working on the project with the highest standards of accuracy, considering traffic flow during construction. Once completed, the underpass will reduce traffic congestion on the roads in Manama.
