Gulf Air, the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain, welcomed 22 undergraduates from local universities into its summer internship program, which aims to provide young Bahrainis an opportunity to gain practical experience and develop their technical and soft skills for enhanced career prospects after graduation. Gulf Air Chief Executive Officer, Captain Waleed Al Alawi received the interns during an induction, highlighting the importance of empowering the Kingdom’s youth and providing the labor market with qualified graduates to serve the civil aviation sector.
Captain Al Alawi said: “Gulf Air is proud to support future employment in Bahrain’s aviation sector and the development of the Kingdom’s talent pool. Bahrain has a wealth of promising young talent that we are pleased to embrace, train, and prepare for work. The national carrier has always played an important role in contributing to the local and regional aviation sector by providing qualified and skilled professionals.
Captain Al Alawi emphasized that Gulf Air invests heavily in training and capacity building to meet the requirements of an evolving aviation industry, in line with international standards. He praised the continuous support provided by the government of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the civil aviation industry.
Captain Al Alawi briefed the interns on the procedures carried out by pilots and cabin crew prior to take off. Interns also visited the Integrated Operations Control Center, (IOCC), which is one of the most critical parts of the company’s business. Managed by Bahrainis, the IOCC forms a bridge between the operational and other concerned departments in every aspect of Gulf Air’s operations, whether inside or outside the Kingdom.
He also briefed the interns on the roles and responsibilities of the IOCC in regulating the flow of aircraft operations, and the detailed monitoring of flight procedures, from take-off to flight path scheduling, to its arrival at its destination, and finally its return home. These daily operations are executed in coordination with local authorities, external stations, and all other concerned parties.
The interns were also briefed on Gulf Air’s vision, mission, and values and guided on a tour of the company’s facilities. They were also given an overview of the functions of different departments, including human resources, technical affairs, operations, commercial affairs, and the Gulf Aviation Academy.
At the end of their visit, the interns explored Gulf Air’s business and economy passenger check-in desks at Bahrain International Airport, which provide passengers with a distinctive travel experience in line with Gulf Air’s commitment to excellence and safety across all its services.
