HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of HM the King for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs was crowned the champion of the 160 km race which was held as part of the Windsor Equestrian Championship. The race featured elite riders from across the world. With this success, His Highness added a new accomplishment to Bahrain’s endurance sport.
HH Shaikh Nasser crossed the finish line in first place following a stiff competition, especially from the UAE’s riders. His Highness’ teammate Abdulrahman Al Zayed finished third, while Maria of Portugal came second as fourth place went to Saif Al Mazrouei of the UAE.
Meanwhile, Bahrain’s Mohammed Al Hashemi has won first place in the 120 km race, followed by his teammates Shahad Waleed Al Ahmad and Nasser Al Qahtani as Bahrain swept the podium of this contest. Moreover, young rider HH Shaikh Isa bin Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa produced a great performance to successfully end the race.
HH Shaikh Nasser confirmed that winning first place came thanks to the support extended to the equestrian sport from HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the interest of HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
“We have developed a vision to upgrade the Windsor Equestrian Championship by adding the 160 km race in light of the keenness of the countries to compete in this distance which represents a great addition for the riders, considering that there are many jockeys who will take part in the upcoming World Championship. Organising a race covering this distance for the first time has witnessed strong competition, and this reflects the keenness of the riders to leave a mark in it,” HH Shaikh Nasser said.
“Windsor’s results will be a great driver for the Royal Endurance team to continue on the same path in order to achieve further successes in abroad events,” HH Shaikh Nasser added.
