The American University of Bahrain (AUBH), re-opened its campus in Riffa, following an orientation session for the incoming Class of 2024 students. AUBH Founding President, Dr. Susan E. Saxton, outlined the University’s ‘Culture of Care’ philosophy to students and staff, and kicked off the semester with a motivational speech about the importance of “showing up” as the first step on the road to success. This year’s cohort includes students of 16 nationalities across three Colleges of Architecture & Design, Engineering, and Business & Management. Seven new faculty members have joined the international staff, including program leads for the recently announced programs of Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering.

AUBH is ensuring the safety and well-being of its students through a synchronous, hybrid learning model across all programs. This model allows AUBH Students to attend socially-distanced classes on-campus or choose to participate in a virtual setting via a camera system with views of the classroom, whiteboards, and activity completed on the University’s interactive CleverTouch monitors, all being shared through Canvas and Microsoft Teams. The option to attend in-person or online is based on individual needs and preferences.

President Saxton commented “We are thrilled to welcome students and staff safely back on campus. I am impressed with the caliber of our Class of 2024, and already see that they embody the diversity and values that form the backbone of American-style education. With emphasis on our ‘Culture of Care’ philosophy, we prioritize the safety and well-being of our AUBH community and look forward to guiding students as they take their first step towards a lifetime of success.”

Part of the University’s progressive vision is to provide innovation in teaching and accessible learning, through the latest technologies. Students were given a safety briefing, welcomed by the Student Council, and met with their Academic Advisors over the two-day orientation. The standard admission process is proceeding for the 2020-2021 academic year, closing on September 24th. Measures are in place to assist transfer students who have decided not to return to their international studies, with their seat reservation fee waived. The dedicated Admissions team is also assisting students with applications by substituting exam requirements where students were not able to complete them abroad. AUBH is still awarding merit scholarships which include agreements for internships at some of Bahrain’s most prominent companies.
