Batelco, as part of its commitment to community initiatives, is sponsoring the 12th edition of Al Sawari International Theater Festival for Youth, which is currently taking place under the patronage of Her Excellency Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, until 10th of September at the Cultural Hall. This partnership is in line with the company’s commitment to support and develop the talents of Bahraini youth.
This year’s edition features the participation of a number of local plays, which are being funded by the Ibrahim Khalfan Fund for drama production, as well as 10 other plays from around the world. Al Sawari International Theater Festival for Youth provides an excellent platform, which aims to encourage innovation and creativity by offering a wide range of activities within the theatrical field.
The participating plays are competing for a number of awards in theatrical performances including best actor, best supporting actor, best actress, best supporting actress, best scenography, best musical composition, best director, best performance, Ibrahim Bahar theatrical script award, Abdulla AlSa’adawi special jury prize.
As part of its corporate social responsibility, this sponsorship supports Batelco’s efforts to contribute to the development of talented people and complements its commitment to a wide range of educational and youth programmes.
Al Sawari Theater is considered the first theatrical festival in the Gulf region specialized in theater performances for young people. The festival was launched by Al Sawari Theater in 1993, and since then was able to enrich the Bahraini and Arabic theater by exchanging experiences with international teams, giving the Bahraini youth a chance to learn about different contemporary proficiencies and encouraging theatrical involvement in all fields of theater. It also provides an artistic and cultural environment for Bahrainis to develop their spirit of innovation.
