First Private Traffic Examination Centre Opened

The General Directorate of Traffic and the National Motor Company has inaugurated the first technical examination centre for vehicles that would be operated by the private sector.

The step was part of plans to privatise this service. The department would continue to carry the technical inspections for cars as usual.

The Director-General of Traffic, Brigadier Shaikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulwahab Al Khalifa highlighted plans to allocate such centres at different areas in the kingdom as part of the directives of Interior Minister to facilitates services for the public and ease the workloads on the directorate. He revealed that the department inspects around 450000 vehicles annually.

He said more centres would be opened after fulfilling the criteria would have traffic offices to handle disputes and supervise operations to ensure that only cars meeting the safety conditions are cleared to promote the safety of road users.

Meanwhile, the Director of Licencing Affairs, Lt-Col. Abdulrahman Al Muawda said technical examiners that would work for the private sector were enrolled in a 15-day training course to enable them to gain the required skills to carry their tasks.
