An initiative that aims to improve and promote health has been launched in the Capital Governorate.
The Healthy City project was launched in an event attended by distinguished officials, including Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Health Minister Dr Jaleela Al Sayed, and Public Security Chief Lieutenant-General Tariq Al Hassan. This project is recognised as one of the key initiatives led by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
The Interior Minister highlighted that the successful implementation of the Healthy City project would greatly contribute to achieving sustainable development.
He also commended the initiatives undertaken by the Capital Governorate in collaboration with partner organisations to meet citizens’ requirements. Additionally, the use of smart technology was emphasised to ensure the safety and comfort of the people in the region.
On his part, Capital Governor Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa said the project was a major step towards achieving environmental protection and improving public health. Since the programme’s launch in 2017, Um Al Hassam was named a ‘healthy city’ in 2018, followed by Manama in 2021 as the first ‘healthy capital’ in the Middle East region.
