A relief aid shipment was dispatched by the Bahrain Red Crescent Society to assist those impacted by the recent earthquake in Syria. The shipment commenced on Tuesday afternoon in front of the Society’s headquarters in the diplomatic area. The event was attended by His Excellency Lieutenant General Doctor Sheikh Mohamed Bin Abdullah Al-Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Society, along with several board members, management, executives, and the Ambassador of the Syrian Arab Republic to the Kingdom of Bahrain.

This aid shipment is a response to the ongoing humanitarian and relief needs of the earthquake-affected individuals. The earthquake had severe consequences in northwestern Syria, affecting numerous cities and villages, and displacing tens of thousands of families, including vulnerable groups such as the elderly, women, and children. Rebuilding the damaged infrastructure in the near future presents considerable challenges.

His Excellency Lieutenant General Doctor Sheikh Mohamed Bin Abdullah Al-Khalifa emphasized that this assistance is being provided in accordance with the royal directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of Bahrain, may God protect him, and with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, may God protect him. It is based on the Kingdom of Bahrain’s commitment to supporting the Syrian people during their humanitarian crisis and helping them overcome the devastating effects of the earthquake. The aid aims to alleviate the suffering of the affected individuals and bring comfort to the families of the victims.

His Excellency further explained that this assistance demonstrates the ongoing support of the Kingdom of Bahrain for their brothers and sisters in Syria. It is a continuation of the generous contributions made by the Bahraini people, who have shown unwavering support for their Syrian counterparts in the face of challenges such as asylum, displacement, and hunger. He highlighted that the aid is a response to the emergency humanitarian appeal, taking into consideration the critical humanitarian situation in Syria. The primary objective is to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the earthquake. His Excellency commended all partners and donors, as well as the dedicated efforts of the personnel of BRCS, who have worked tirelessly to make significant contributions to the relief and humanitarian support provided by the Kingdom of Bahrain to those affected by the disaster.

It was carried out after assessing the most pressing needs of the affected individuals. He emphasized that the aid package includes essential food items, vital medical materials, and supplies. Of particular importance is the provision of infant formula, as there is a significant demand for this among children in the affected areas.

Mr. Al Hadi extended his gratitude and appreciation on behalf of BRCS to all institutions, citizens, and residents who responded to the Society’s donation appeal. Their generous contributions have made it possible to provide material donations and urgent relief assistance to those affected by the earthquake in Syria and Turkey.

On the other hand, Mr. Mohamed Ali Ibrahim, the Syrian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain, expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the Kingdom of Bahrain, His Majesty the King, government, and people, for the relief assistance rendered to those impacted by the earthquake. He highlighted that this aid once again exemplifies the deep-rooted and friendly relations between the two countries.
