As per the ‘Upanishads ‘, ancient texts which mention the qualities and attributes of Yoga as a science, real physical health is indicated by lightness of body, complexion clearness, an agreeable odour, beautiful voice, desirelessness of the mind and scantiness of excretions. These are some of the very first signs of getting initiated into Yoga.

In Patanjali ‘s Yoga Sutras, an ancient and most important text on Yoga, the requirements of body perfection embrace gracefulness, beauty and strength. One of the characteristics of good health is radiance which comes through the mastery of ‘samana’ or energy of digestion.

Yoga not only helps to stretch and tone the muscles of the abdomen but also helps to stimulate the endocrine glands to make them work more efficiently. The entire digestive system becomes well oiled and functions more smoothly to improve digestive health.

There are several yoga postures and cleansing techniques specifically designed to relax the digestive system and release intestinal toxins. As the digestive system improves so does the physical health of a person resulting in a clear complexion, radiant eyes and optimum health.
